  • Hi everyone, so I want to talk about something that has been driving me absolutely crazy at home for the past few months and I’m hoping someone here has found a practical solution because everything I’ve tried so far has only partially worked and I’m running out of ideas that don’t involve spending a fortune on something that might not even fix the problem properly. We have an outdoor majlis and barbecue area at our villa that we use regularly for family gatherings and the waste management in that space has been a constant headache ever since we built it two years ago. The main issues are the smell that builds up incredibly quickly in the outdoor heat, flies and other insects that seem to appear within minutes of any food waste being thrown away, and the fact that our current open top container gets blown over by wind fairly regularly which creates a mess that someone has to clean up before the next gathering.
A family member suggested the simplest solution would be to invest in a proper garbage bin with lid specifically designed for outdoor use in hot climates, which sounds obvious but apparently makes a significant difference compared to just putting a loose cover on a regular open container. I looked into options on crateco.ae while researching this and found it useful for understanding what features actually matter for outdoor food waste containment in a climate like ours, particularly around lid seal quality and whether the hinge mechanism holds up after repeated use in high temperatures. What I’m still not sure about is whether a standard lidded bin would be sufficient for our situation or whether we need something with a more secure locking mechanism to properly keep insects out, and whether the size we choose affects how quickly smells build up inside when it’s not being emptied every single day. Has anyone here set up a proper outdoor entertaining area in the UAE and found a specific bin type or lid design that genuinely solved the pest and odor problem rather than just reducing it slightly?
