How do you figure out which art style suits you?

I have realised that I cannot really describe my preferred art style in a simple way. Sometimes I like abstract paintings, sometimes landscapes, and occasionally something much more traditional catches my attention. Because of that, I find it difficult to search for artwork using specific terms. I usually know that I like a painting when I see it, but I am not always sure why. I would like to understand my own preferences a little better before buying something for my home. Has anyone found a good way to do that?

I would start by looking at a broad selection instead of trying to choose one style immediately. You can browse https://artpetroff.com/ and save a few works that attract your attention for completely different reasons. After collecting several examples, compare them and see whether you notice recurring colours, subjects or compositions. That can reveal your preferences more clearly than trying to define them in advance. I would also avoid worrying too much about whether a particular work belongs to a recognised style. If you enjoy looking at it and it works in your space, that can be a perfectly reasonable starting point.
