ParticipantHey, I’ve been spending hours on my college essays, but my professor keeps saying they sound unnatural. I don’t really know what I’m doing wrong, and it’s frustrating. Has anyone else had this issue?

ParticipantIt’s so frustrating when you’ve put in the hours and the feedback still feels vague. Honestly, most of us fall into the trap of using ‘thesaurus words’ or complex sentences because we think that’s what professors want, but it often ends up sounding like a robot wrote it. One thing that helped me was reading my draft out loud. If I found myself running out of breath or tripping over a sentence, I knew it needed to be simplified. Try writing like you’re explaining the topic to a smart friend—it usually helps find that balance between professional and natural.

ParticipantHi, I felt exactly the same until a friend suggested I try gptzero AI detector for college. I pasted a few of my essays and it flagged sections that seemed too formulaic or mechanical. After revising those parts, the text flowed much more naturally, and my next essay actually got praised for sounding like me. Now I check every draft before submitting, and it really takes away the stress of worrying whether my writing seems authentic.
