Has Anyone Used Help Planning Their First Cruise Trip?

I have been thinking about taking my first cruise vacation and I am trying to understand the best way to plan everything. There are so many choices with destinations, cruise lines, and packages that it feels a little overwhelming. Some people suggest doing everything independently, while others recommend working with a Cruise Travel Agent for guidance.
