ParticipantI used to go to metal shows constantly when I was younger, plus a few festivals every year. Then I got married, work got busy, and at some point I realized I hadn’t been to a concert in ages. I’m not looking to start going every week again, but it’d be nice to catch one of my favorite bands or just hear some live music on a free Saturday. Where do you guys check who’s playing in New York and when?

ParticipantBig tours are hard to miss, but smaller shows can come and go without ever showing up in your feed. That’s often where the bands you remember from festivals end up playing now. Bandsintown is pretty useful for following the ones you still listen to and getting alerts when they add a New York date. Don’t follow every band you’ve ever heard of, though, or the alerts will turn into background noise.

ParticipantThat works when you already have certain bands in mind. Sometimes you’ll just have a free weekend and want to know what’s happening around the city, and artist alerts won’t show you everything. You can check the lineup for rock concerts in New York here: https://myrockshows.com/location/173-new-york-ny/ . Look through the next few weekends and see what catches your eye. A bill with one familiar name is usually enough reason to give it a shot.
