How much does PSU monitoring matter in multi-GPU workstations?

We have one workstation used for 3D work and local AI tests, and the next upgrade may add another GPU. The builder mentioned PSU monitoring, but I always thought monitoring was more for servers than desktop workstations. Does it really matter when several GPUs are pulling power at the same time?
